Hi
The cost of using the air machine at the Shell garage has gone up to a minimum charge of 50p. I don’t often use it so not sure how long it’s been at this price. There is a (small) notice of charges but nothing to draw one’s attention to the change. If you don’t put in a minimum of 50p it will measure tyre pressure but won’t put in any air. There’s also a notice saying that the machine isn’t owned or operated by the garage and so refunds won’t be given under any circumstances. So, if you aren’t aware of the change, don’t put in a minimum of 50p and it doesn’t work you won’t get a refund.
I realise that this isn’t a lot of money in the grand scheme of things but just thought I’d draw it to people’s attention in case like me they weren’t aware of the increased minimum charge & got caught out |

I think you will find the 50p minimum charge for air is not unique to Silsden.
But now for the good news - air is free at Sainsburys, Keighley |

Yes, I usually use Sainsbury's which is why I'm not used to paying 50p! |

Asda is 20p and it is accurate. The one in Silsden is very old, and it does not give you the correct pressure reading anyway. Hopefully new owners will revamp the whole place, much needed. |

I remember when air was free and there was an attendant to fill the tank, they would even check the oil for you if you asked!Oh those were the day when petrol was 3 bob a gallon. |

There are still attended service petrol forecourts - but considering the commmotion on here about existing petrol prices, if they were raised to cover the attendant(s) wages, then who knows what would happen . .

Small electronic pump, 4.00/50p per week for an unreliable machine, I know which I would rather use! |

Deep pockets are needed for this one, all the pumps are ancient, and need replacing. Unless a petrol chain buys the filling stations they will disappear I'm afraid. Only an un-manned type like Asda would pay back any investment. Let's see what happens. Who'd want a filling station almost next to a waste management site that could catch fire like the one at Thirsk? |

Yes dogcatcher, and 2 diesel pumps to fill up 300 wagons every day... a real money spinner |
