IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : Designated drinking order |

Whats the point.I guess I have been out drinking on Fridays/Saturdays(in pubs) for most of the last 30 years.I dont see dozens of adults drinking in the streets. What I have seen over the years is an increase in underage drinking/disorder in the town If we need new laws then ban street drinking for all age groups or at least impose existing laws and stop these kids binge drinking. |
|
| pumbajunior |
i dont understand the above post are you saying something should be done about binge drinkers or something has been done which affects us responsible adults who want to sink a few jars to relax after a tireing week |

The article in the Craven Herald explains all www.cravenherald.co.uk/news/newsskipton/display.var.1753686.0.bid_to_ban_street_drinking.php |

Sorry I didnt make myself clear. There is a need to stop youngters ie The Clog Bridge Social Club from street drinkers rather than wasting time on adult street drinkers. |

this post has been edited 2 time(s) What about the crowds on the pavement and road, with bottles and glasses, drinking outside Bonapartes (or whatever it is called this week)of a night? As I have just witnessed again! By the way it was the idea of the police and not meant as a ban! It is meant to be merely a device whereby the police can request people to stop drinking IF there are any issues! To quote the Craven Herald - The town council has given its support to the order, which allows a police officer to request an adult not to drink alcohol in a public place. The officer may also require the person to surrender any alcohol containers. At a meeting of Silsden Town Council, Insp Darren Minton said: "It is not an offence to drink alcohol in the designated place, but the failure to comply with the officer's requirement is. |

Police are crap there never there when u need them so they never get any kids there to fast |
|

Did anyone call the police to say there was a problem? Or had you all had too much alcohol yourselves? |
|

This smoking ban has created the problem outside the wine bar and it needs sorting before someone get knocked down. The landlord of the Bridge doesnt let anyone take glasses or bottles out of his pub after 10pm.Why cant the wine bar do the same. But they are not causing damage like some of the younger generation. If the police are to be judge and jury it should be against underage drinkers. |

when the sewer rats next hold a rally who will shift them from outside the lion as they have gathered there for years and no trouble has ever accured |
|
| alan |
The point is 'coby1' that if there is no trouble then nobody will be shifted or prevented from drinking! It's only to be used IF there is a problem. It will not ban drinking, I would suggest that everyone reads the Craven Herald article properly before going off on a tangent! |

this post has been edited 2 time(s) do you think it would help if Kirkgate was pedestrianised? Then the smokers outside the wine bar wouldnt get knocked down! |
|

and were exactly would the traffic be rerouted? |

Up the road where 'cata list' lives |

just to point out ther is more than the sewer rats that drink outside the lion during the summer. why pick on them! they bring a lot of trade to other pubs and shops while in silsden. just stop people from taking glasses out of the pub after a given time. If only the govement relised wot bother its caused this no somking in pubs |
|
| grandad |
It’s not the government that has caused the trouble, it is the nicotine junkies who have to get their fix regardless of who else they inconvenience in the process, not only do they go outside, they have to take the boozes out with them, some of them then seem to forget which pub they came out of; and go wandering about the town until the glass or bottle is empty, then they throw it down in the street where it usually breaks. Silsden would be a lot better place to live if these successful brain donors went out of town to drink. |
|
| bobber |
bit strong grandad, people go outside now because they're banned from smoking in a public place and you're still having a go at them! go back in the pub and have a rant at the alcohol dependants that pick fights and cause destruction on their way home.but then, am i putting all the peas in one pod too? |
|
| alan |
'grandad' has a point 'bobber'. The trouble is the "junkies" go outside in the centre of Silsden, drink in the middle of the road and drop/break their glasses and bottles! Want to see an example go past Reflectionz or whatever it's called of a weekend! One of the staff was sweeping up in the centre of the road. How long before someone is killed by some nutter driving too fast through the centre? |
|
| pumbajunior |
Surely your not suggesting Alan that people speed through our lovely village |

Everybody monorail whats that monorail MONORAIL (homer) mono DOH! |
|
| grandad |
The junkies don’t have to take their beer outside with them, surely they can finish a drink nip out for a coffin stick, then go back inside, remembering to take the dog end back inside with them. Not throwing it down in the street. All this is not complicated; just a bit of common sense, but then again as my old science master often used to say, “If there was such a think as common sense, there would be more of it about.” |
|
| alan |
Where you are going wrong 'grandad' is in assuming that they can use logic and multi-task. |
