This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

does anyone know why the santa sleigh stopped coming round the streets? We were driving through colne last saturday evening and there was a torch lit procession (real flames) and santa on his sleigh heading up the main street, it was very atmospheric. It would be nice if that could happen here.

I suppose you'd have to ask crosshills round table about that as I thought it was them that organised it. TBH I dont want the buggers knocking on my door for money - which was the point of the excercise

the one in colne passed us about 5-45pm not sure whether all the shops were open or not but there must have been about 200 people in the procession, not sure if they then had a grotto or carol singing or band as we did not come back that way till about 8pm, the marshalls were just heading home then.In the past when the late night opening was on and shopkeepers handed out drinks etc and santa came up kirkgate in his sleigh throwing sweets to the kids, I know my family enjoyed it.

just been reading the itinary for the colne switch on, maybe some ideas in there for next year!
10-4 christmas arts and crafts market
10-12 and 2-4 face painter
11-1 darwen brass band
1-6-30 donkeys
1-30-3-30 pendle jazzmen
carousel rides on the precinct, hot chocolate and mini mince pies from all about coffee and pie and peas served all day in the church
5-30 procession assembles at crown inn and moves to the church for short service and carols led by pendle youth choir
procession then moves to market for 6-15 and more carols and eventually ends up on the precint for 6-45 with music build up to firework display at 7pm
must take a heck of a lot of organising and I appreciate colne has much more than silsden in the way of shops etc but something to think about

The last time Silsden Gala Committee did late night event it was not well attended and hardly any shops stayed open so the committee decided to go a different route, hence the Christmas market. We would be happy to involve Santa in the day next year if he still has his own sleigh,we are quite a small committee these days and don't have lots of volunteers to help so you must appreciate we cannot do everything we would like to do.Please feel free to come along to a meeting and offer yourselves up when we have an event on and ideas are welcome to improve what we do.

I think as the gala committee have pointed out there wasn't a demand for it here...but if he wants to do it a the xmas market and people are willing to help then maybe he could....
