This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Weaving Shed Waterloo Mills Howden Road Silsden West Yorkshire Proposal Partial demolition of the existing Weaving Shed, the only element to be retained being the existing facade to Howden Road and potentially 3 bays of the existing cast iron frame (subject to structural integrity). In its place 5 new residential townhouses will be created which will utilise the retained facade and include a single storey extension.

The weaving shed as an industrial unit has been up for sale/rent for ages. The garage use it for storing cars, but obviously that is just a temporary deal.

As a modern industrial unit it really is a dead loss. No real access, no where to park vehicles, except inside. Only solution is to knock it down and use the area. Obviously housing gives a better return than a new industrial/office unit with parking.

As for the mill becoming housing? I have always reckoned that as a long term bet. Again as a modern industrial unit it really is a dead loss.

Other than the light and access creating housing out of the old weaving shed is not a bad idea. There is a house at one end. I think they would have to increase parking restrictions along the road though as awkward access on the proposal will mean people leaving their cars on the road rather than parking them next to the house.

Then of course there is that rather unique vertical steam engine.

yep another ideal opportunity for some brown site redevlopment, exactly what we should be encouraging. I can't see the timber cladding being approved though given the all stone surrounding buildings.

funny to read the objection put in from the plastic conversions over the road concerned about the dust & mess of demolition!

makes you wonder if the engine & chimney are protected?
