I was very excited when I saw the new cake shop open. I was in need of a very special celebration cake so thought this would be my answer, regardless of cost. How disappointing, I was offered a consultation which didn't really amount to much. There was no port folio to look through, no cakes on display, no enthusiasm from staff, except I was told there was one in the corner of the shop window. The world was their oyster, sadly I came out with nothing. A couple of weeks later a friend called into the shop for cake decorations, again a very disappointing experience only candles and ribbons on offer. I do wish the business well, but I feel a lot more thought and effort needs to be applied.

Well, I have to say the food they serve in the cafe is nothing less than superb, especially the cakes: it's comfortable, friendly, unpretentious & good value. A great asset to Silsden.

Is this the same EC who wishes to dump Human Rights on one subject, but wants them applied on another.

Please, let us have consistency.

If anyone is looking for a really special cake then I can recommend No5 The Coffee House in Haworth. Run by Claire Smith, it's a B&B but open as a coffe house Thurs - Sun (& bank hols). She makes all the heavenly cakes herself and you really have to experience them to appreciate the full mening fo the word heavenly. My sister had her cakes at her wedding and they went down a storm.

Are we on about the cake shop on the bridge? or the one just down (and across) from Paul's? The one on the bridge had an interesting display, but nothing I'd fancy buying myself. I guess I'd say the same for the one near Paul's, in fact is it the same business just moved location? No offence but many of the designs looked a bit amateur to me. Maybe I'm biased though because my mum used to make fantastic cakes with "proper" royal icing, piped flowers and the works and I just think all this fondant icing rolled out and draped over a sponge cake is tacky and not very skilled, although it seems to be the thing in vogue at present.

Actually Mukka, yes I think I could do at least as good as some of the fondant creations I've seen in the window, and no, I wasn't slagging anybody off, merely commenting, offering my opinion and joining in the conversation.

Get a few more positive posts under your belt and maybe I'll listen to your criticisms.

Oh, and while we're at it:-

Slander: words falsely spoken that damage the reputation of another.
What in my post was false? Maybe choose your own words a bit more carefully, no? And since it was in writing it would have to be libel not slander.

I've visited Cafe Cake as well on several occasions, its a great place to meet (locally!!) with friends and have a lovely cake n coffee. The service is always friendly, so can't fault the cafe on my experiences. Have never bought or looked at occasion cakes however, so can't comment on the cafe in that respect. I have however bought some of their Cup Cakes for my daughter's party and they were delicious, a little bit over-loaded with icing perhaps which made them a bit sickly, but the kids loved them.!!
