IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : a thread to get everyone debating! |
| alliecoward |
should parking be banned down the main street?? |
| bobber |
sure thing! except for motorbikes and green volkswagens. |
| alliecoward |
and what about take-away delivery vehicles?? surely they need special access!and hgv's stopping to buy and eat their fish and chips. in fact should all pedestrians be banned from main street?? |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) Where exactly are we meaning as in between what points as my little car lives on the main street when I am not working. |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) Banned except for 4x4's, oh and motorbikes forgot them. That's two votes for motorbikes. |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) I would like to a restriction on through traffic. I come in from work over cringles and live on the main road nearly out the opposite end of town and the amount of people I see that just use the town as a cut through from one valley to other is just crazy. As for the parking, is that not what the car park is for? |
| alan |
this post has been edited 1 time(s) Gates at the Cringles with a swipe card for those who live in Silsden would be a good idea and pedestrianise the street ![]() Seriously though, the main reason the town council has never put any pressure on Bradford to restrict parking is that the parking slows down the traffic, so I believe. Just look at the effect when no cars are parked on the nutters who drive too fast! |
| gazzer |
Ban parking and the result will be cars driving through Silsden at 50 or 60mph. I think that is the reason parking is allowed. |
| alan |
That's it 'gazzer'. The big problem comes when people park outside the designated area and the road is narrower. Have to confess think the odd lost wing mirror is better than the alternative of speeders in the town and possibly killing someone! |
| alliecoward |
perhaps a diversion for vehicles over a certain weight, or width, which may ease traffic congestion, or what about a toll. silsden residents get free pass ...everyone else has to pay, and all the money goes to a silsden social fund!! |
| alliecoward |
maybe that's the answer, the all new silsden congestion charge!! |
| pumbajunior |
quoteelectric gate openers alan get with the times ![]() @ alliecoward on the social fund i was just thinking while walking up town today (how many people from this site i might have met in town n not known) i was also thinking maybe a silsden.net meet/night out i have done it on other forums and it can be good fun |
| jonno |
I think double yellow lines on all of kirgate and brigate to ban parking entirely [maybe one or two residents only bays on the widest part opposite Barclays(?)]. Disabled folk could still park of course. Then to stop speeding put some nice big speed bumps like those on that road that people use as a shortcut into crosshills. They would slow down the traffic without bringing it to a standstill, like what happens now when a bus comes up or down the road and everyone has to stop to let it get round the parked cars by the duckpond. And make it 20mph limit from the canal bridge to the top of bolton road where the flashy 30mph sign is now. And install rocket launchers to shoot any vehicles breaking the speed limit, and checkpoints to charge any non-silsdeners to come thru town. How about making the wesley car park into a multi-storey one? Five stories high should do it? |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) great idea for silsden forum social( hereafter known as the SFC!)any ideas for the first meet and greet? and do you want to wait until we start to get the first monies from the congestion charges?!!! oh... and can i sign you all up for the panto whilst you're there? |
| pumbajunior |
im not gonna be much help with the panto i work shifts so if not at work im sleeping or walking docs orders (high blood pressure) depens for sfc only thing that comes to mind is sunday jar of ale maybe in a few of silsdens finer drinking establishments |
| Peter |
Can I ask those of you that start posts to put a meaningful title to start your post. The TOPIC TITLE of THIS thread should have been "should parking be banned down the main street??" Thanks, Peter |
| alan |
Good idea 'plumbajunior' - night out - would we have to wear name tabs? ![]() Think we'd need to make sure all sharp objects were handed in at the door first though |
| grandad |
any and all suggestions to help the traffic flow better through the town are a waste of time. Bradford highways never listen to locals, maybe it is because sitting in their ivory towers they can't hear us mear mortals. |
| tetleydrinker |
Peter, You've got to abmit that the post certainly did get people debating, admittedly not about the contents of the first post, but it nust be one of the quickest threads on the site |
| Peter |
tetleydrinker, debates should have some structure but on this thread there are just random muses. |
| tetleydrinker |
Maybe we should have a "random musing" section on the forum, it would be a good place for the mad ramblings of us Silsdeners |
| alan |
Think it would be an idea to close it Peter. It's confusing me where it's going, but there again I get confused easily these days |
| Peter |
tetleydrinker, there is an area of the forum already for such muses "Wouldn't it be good if ...." I just looked at this area and one of the topics is "No Parking on Main road" www.silsden.net/forum/philboard_read.asp?id=181 which was started in 2005. The problems doesn't seem to have gone away two years later! A tip for the forum - try using the forum search, the result can be interesting. It is nice to see so many different posters writing something. |
| alan |
Funny you should say that 'Peter' just been doing that, makes for VERY interesting reading comparing posts from the past on here |
| Peter |
Alan, your comment supports my point that the thread should have a definite subject, but I will leave it open for a bit longer. |
| alliecoward |
i would just like to thank ALL contributors.at least it did what it said on the advert, got everybody debating!!! |
| tetleydrinker |
If a large number of people debate at the same time will it make you go blind !!!!!!!!!! |
| alan |
Are you saying we are a large number of debaters in Silsden 'tetleydrinker'? |
| jonno |
Or it could be titled "Meaningless Banter" even. (The forum not this thread, although....) |
| alan |
this post has been edited 1 time(s) For once could agree 'jonno', but I daren't have said that ![]() Mean this thread only by the way not the forum |
| Peter |
