So the council are keen to asset strip Silsden.
Is it time for Silsden to leave Bradford and join North Yorkshire or push for a Keighley/Silsden?Ilkley council?

Why lumber us in North Yorks? We've got Cowling already! (only joking, you're more than welcome). Bring back Silsden UDC. In those days most things could be sorted out with a quick phone call to Walter Mitchell.

Its not such a daft idea as Silsden was part of Skipton Castle for 650 years upto 1947 and we have been part of Bradford for less than 40 years.

Just check out the services provided by Bradford and West Yorkshire compared with Craven and North Yorkshire.

One benefit of Silsden being a 'border town' are we get the big city benefits while living nearly in the sticks!

Mind you, I think a lot more could be delegated to the likes of Silsden, somewhat in the fashion of France.

Two things. There are no big city benefits. Its reverse.Bradford inner city sponges off Silsden.
Bradford Council have plans afoot that mean Silsden will no longer be "in the sticks" and will become urban sprawl.

If you want to move into Craven you will pay 20% more council tax for the same house.
Not me, thanks happy :)

gazzer don't you think that poorer areas should be helped by the more affluent areas of the county.

You seem to judge things on cost but I judge things on value.

No I believe locally raised tax should be decided and spent locally. Its the job of the national Government to help deprived areas, something this and the previous Governments have failed to do.

Gazzer so do you also believe that the band D.E.F.G H.council tax payers should not have to subsidise the A.B.and C.band council tax payers in Silsden.Because roughley if everyone in silsden paid Band C that is what is spent on Silsden,so the money going down to Bradford only comes from band D.E.F.G.H.and so on.

I believe the money paid by A,B,C,D,E,F,G&H bands should be spent locally. I dont think there is cross subsidy. Not quite sure what you mean.

What I ment was that some people pay more than others but get the same services, you would like to seperate Silsden from Bradford. Why not take it further seperate band A. and B. houses in Silsden and spend the council tax they pay on them, and the council tax that the houses at the top of Skipton road pay on Skipton road. Can't you see that the better off should help the poorer in society, protectionism dosent work.

Its a fact of life that those who can afford to pay more tax, income or council, should. It would be better to have a local income tax then those less well off, usually but not always bands A&B, would be exempt.
Bradford Council has sold off/taken a lot of assets from Silsden and continues to do so.From the petrol footpath snowploughs that Silsden UDC bought with Silsdeners money through to what looks like the library.
When South Craven School agreed to take Silsden pupils it was on agreement that Silsden children were bused free of charge but it was one of the first things Bradford Council took away from us.
Wasnt the land where Pennine Playgrounds the UDC works yard. There was a council office next to the Catholic church. We had a park keeper living in the park grounds who used to keep order.(Glusburn & Sutton have a park keeper).
When we wanted a swimming pool in Silsden Bradford Council didnt come up with the money it was cobbydalers. I was part of the chain gang of kids removing bricks from a knocked down wall.
Car parks were free but Bradford introduced charges and removed the Elliott Street car park all together.
The changing facilities in the park have become unfit for purpose during Bradford Mets watch.
What happened to the £50m cash windfall Bradford Council got from the airport sale. It went on city regeneration and a health centre in Keighley and a school rebuilding scheme. Apparently each ward councillor was given £33,000 to spend in their ward. Just under £100,000 for the craven ward. Im sure some went on good causes but have not seen a list.

Its just all give. What assets have Bradford Council given Silsden since it gained control?

Where is the Silsden Independence Party?

If it existed would it be able to break the big party hold on local politics?

Bradford City Metropolitan Distict Council has council members from many 'old' local areas such as Silsden. If the majority of elected councilors were members of local independence parties then something might happen.

Unlikely, as we now live in a Tory created centralised state that Stalin would have loved. As ultimately all political parties want to be in total control do not expect big suggestions from the other two. Maybe if the Libdems are massacred at the next general election they might pay more than lip service to the idea in the future.

Some would say 'put up or shut up' but that is an undemocratic statement. If anyone is really passionate on this topic then 'put up'. By no means shut up, but do not expect quick results.
