In todays T&A Bradford Council announce plans to move to fortnightly general waste bin collection. This they say is to limit peoples capacity so they recycle more. Its not that at all, its another cut in service. The amount of waste going to landfill in Bradford Council's area has been slashed by 2/3 in the last 4 years and now half is recycled with around a 1/4 going to landfill and the same burnt for fuel.
So instead of congratulating people for recycling more than ever before and accepting things are moving in the right direction they are to introduce a cut in service. And this will lead to more flytipping which is already up 7% since permits were introduced. |

I would normally agree with you, but I only put one bin liner in my general waste every other week. 95% of my waste is recycled in one way o another. People really do need to get used to the idea of recycling. Food waste goes into compost, clothing, shoes, batteries, plastics, metals, glass, all go into the relevant recycling boxes/bins. The only bits I do tend to bin are meat and fish bones and perennial weed root balls. I only bin the latter due to the PC brigade moaning about bonfires etc. They do make excellent pot ash for growing trees! |

Nothing but praise for people like you Gamekeeper and you too Victor this is the only way forward, Too many people can not be bothered. We all need to do more it is amazing how little of our rubbish is not recyclable if only we give it a little more thought. |

Sounds like you lot are single and don’t have a family! Remember also much of our plastic cannot still be recycled. If we don’t have a weekly bin collection I can see who are going to foot the bill for all those extra trips to the tip..or should I say Recycling centre!!! |

We already re-cycle pretty much all we can and we still have a full bin some weeks and there's only four of us, not a huge family or anything. If we didn't re-cycle so much plastic we'd have a full bin every week.
Have to say I think this is cost saving disguised as being eco-friendly. |

Sounds like you live on procesed pre packed food and takeaways to me if you have that volume of plastic if so try spending a little time to squash it down a bit for example an empty plastic milk cartons with the lid off squash it and then put the screw cap back on only takes a few seconds see just how much room that alone will save in your bin we all just need to use the grey matter a little more, Ho and BTW i am not single either |

'The number of local councils placing microchips in bins is increasing, despite the fact that only one of them has volunteered to trial the Government's pay-as-you-throw scheme. In March 2014, a survey based on Freedom of Information inquiries showed there were 42 councils which used bins with microchips. But the latest check, also based on FOI requests, put the number of authorities with electronic bins at 68 - one in five of all those that collect household rubbish.
'Councils are waiting until the public aren't watching to begin surveillance on our waste habits, intruding into people's private lives and introducing punitive taxes on what we throw away. |

We recycle as much as possible and doing our bit is the right thing to do. No complaints and nobody can have an excuse. If your a single person household there would be no reason to put your bin out every week. A four adult household like ours should have the option if needed to put our bin out weekly. |

Sorry Peter slightly off topic. I heard that when the Norwegians go to the supermarket, they take all of the outer wrappings off the produce and leave it at the supermarket, that has encouraged the shops to reduce the amount of packaging they put on in the first place. Worth a try? |
