Hey superredno8 I think that Andertons coaches from Keighley used to run coaches to Burnley from Elliot st they used to be parked from the school to main street junction I think this was about early sixties |

Silsden is part of Bradford MD so support your local & home team Bradford City not some team in Lancashire! Well done to Burnley but they will be straight back down as financially they can't compete. |
|
| superredno8 |

If we're having a history lesson, my one and only trip to turf moor was in one of Alec Thompson's coaches, he was based in Sutton, as I remember. |
|
| superredno8 |
my first trip was on a boxing day at about 6 burnley 1 liverpool 5 the big clubs used to take the longside with the burnley fans pushed into the open end |
|
| Dodzi |
We may be part of Brad met - but we don'y want to be - sod Bradford's teams - support local ones! |
|
| Raver |
Hang On! Network Rail will soon electrify the Trans Pennine route so it will be easy to get to see the new Premier League Champions at their home ground - no contest! |

Yes I remember Thompsons coaches going to matches at Burnley. Starting bottom of Elliott St.where I lived at the time. Also does anyone remember Thompsons "Mystery tours" on Sunday evenings usually the Dales or Harrogate district. You booked at Tom lLowis the gents barber on Kirkgate opposite Twiggs newsagents or to older Silsdeners opposite the "Milk "Bar" This would be late 50s early 60s. At that time Bunley had great teams that could compete with the big city clubs.Good luck to them on there return to the Premiership. |

My one and only visit was part of my parents attempt to make me like football, as mr. Kelly would not allow any other game. They failed and I spent four years at both field street avoiding it. |

One visit to Burnley put you off football for life, not surprised really..should have gone to watch Leeds...I did and havent missed a home league game in over 29 years!! |

Gazzer very similar to myself, but I have not missed a SILSDEN AFC home game for nearly 25 years!! Why can't people support their local grassroots football FIRST and then go to the occasional Pro match? PS - Hope your new to be wife still lets you go to Silsden AND Leeds? |

I think I have been quite tolerant on this thread allowing this discussion to continue on what started out as a "announcement". The discussion about the busses was interesting but I think you have done the bus thing to death now. if you really want to talk about football then use the Silsden AFC website forum please. silsdenafc.ipbhost.com/index.php |

Before we finish with the buses it was Bensons (Bangers) that ran the coaches from Elliot Street in the sixties and early seventies to Burnley picking up also at Sutton and Cross hills. The late Morris Cowling was in charge of the Bus. Anderson's Run Coaches from Keighley to Burnley, they only run a Coach to leeds or Manchester when they were playing Burnley. I remember a school mate who supported Leeds asking the Bus driver why they didn't run coaches to Leeds Utd. Couldn't get enough people to go he answers. I do think its important to support Silsden AFC. The club has grown so much and it plays at a high non league level. But Burnley is the place to watch the best teams In England play its just over the hill. Take your children and Grandchildren to watch both Silsden and Burnley. |
|
| Alan Grop |
Spanish Silsden AFC did play in those days at Keighley road, Our Lad played for them, as well as Silsden utd in the Park. |

If anyone wants to continue talking about coaches from Keighley (especially. but not exclusively, Andertons!), Keighley local history group have a forum specifically about transport at keighleyhistory.proboards.com/thread/1241 . |
