This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

On the speedwatch thread I suggested cameras would be better postioned at the Hard Ings Roundabout.Today cameras have been installed at Steeton roundabout.I doubt they will be to catch bad drivers.Probably to study traffic flows.Does anyon know why they are there?

Cameras?

Do you mean the blue poles approaching the roundabout?

yesterday morning there was a temporary camera looking on to the roundabout and white van man parked next to it on the triangular central reservation bit just before the roundabout. not the blue poles. Could be for speed or could be traffic monitoring to prove we really do need a bridge to get over hells highway.

I'm totally lost, couldn't see any cameras this morning.

They were on poles strapped to lamposts. They looked like CCTV.I dont think they were there yesterday morning and they are not there this morning. If they are doing a survey then surely they needed to be there 24hrs.

I think they would just use a van for that.

It would not take long to work out the basic traffic flows. It will be interesting to see what appears when the next lot of white lines are painted.

I suspect this was the traffic engineers using the cameras as part of their job. In the past they would have used cine cameras and film. With the cameras running at about 1 frame per second rather than the regular 24. Cheaper and easier to use video today.

As far as I remember from my work study lectures the technique is known as meemo motion, well that is how it is pronounced.
