I'm seeing more of him than I am of my spouse! He's the man who is everywhere!
There's at least three or four of him looking out of my Keighley News. He's adorning my copy of the Silsden survey. He's coming through my letterbox. And now he's super-size!! Looking all manly and purposeful and watching our every move from the side of the Kings Arms!
Where will he turn up next? On the church tower? On the bandstand? In our dreams? He's the Simon Cowell of Silsden, he's the man who is everywhere!
How very strange than that when voters seek a little basic info -say, why was he pocketing £31,000 of public money for his "special responsibilities" one year, being kicked out of his Party the next - our man who is everywhere slips away quietly into the night.

Are you talking about Labour leader Ian Greenwood and his actual £34,000 SRA as he is the only person to collect over £30,000.Ian Greenwood seemed to get twice as much as Coun Naylor.

Oh..someone mentioned getting over 30 grand from the council and Greenwood is that man and not Naylor and you mentioned "money pie" so like anyone I assumed again you must mean Greenwood. I must have misread the post's.
Perhaps you can enlighten me on how much Naylor actually got.

I think that all the attention Mr Naylor is getting makes it less likely people will vote for him....seems to me that people are making too strong a case for him....puts voters off, maybe wink ;)
Very few people vote in local elections anyway....anyone know why?

The opening post said Mr Naylor got £31,000 for his special resposibilities but it was half your quoted figure.Your including basic expenses in your figures. Put into perspective, using total figures as you have done Counc Greenwood recieved just under £50,000.
Just trying to keep a balanced view to the figures people are quoting.

well lets just stick to the facts yes you are 100% right about greenwood he got £49,414 naylor got £34,486 between them that is £83,900 they got off us the rate payers for a part time job? you seem to have requested that greenwood should be quoted as well no problem they both seem to milk the system most normal working people earn no where near those sums above so the more people are made aware of it the better so keep this post running gazzer.

The point of this posting is being missed.
Its not about the size of this man's expenses: all councillors receive them. Its about asking why he was such a senior figure in his Party (with special responsibilities, for which he was paid) one year, and the next year he's kicked out by this same Party without public explanation. Isn't it a natural question for voters to ask, including those of us who have no particular axe to grind? Otherwise aren't we being treated like sheep?

Good point. Without explanation(I am not sure even Mr Naylor has been told) we dont know. To me(and its guess without facts) it looks like his party believe they have someone who can offer a lot to their party. He stood for his local ward(Shipley) and lost to the Green Party last year. So it looks like the have looked for a safe seat and parachuted him in. Personally I would never vote for a candidate who is not local and arrives as a candidate in this manner. I am sure if Mr Naylor had done anything wrong his former party would have let us all know by now as the main person who will lose votes is the candidate forced on us.
Should anyone from Mr Naylor's former party knock on anyones door the first question should be what happened.
Any prospective candidate should be asked if they support the planned amount of new houses and would they vote against their own party to protect Silsden.Yes or No answers to both these questions only!!!!

I have had a look at rules and regs for parish and town councils and as far as I can see the public and press are allowed to attend any meeting of the council or any comittee unless excluded by formal resolution in relation to any matter of business.Usually exclusion applies if there is confidential business or if there is some other good reason and the exclusion has to be voted by the majority of cllrs present and the reason must be stated in the motion to excude and be detailed in the minutes. I cannot see anywhere that says only residents of the area are allowed to attend, I think they have made a mistake here, and despite the town council always saying anyone is welcome at their meetings people are not always made to feel welcome, certain members can be intimidating sometimes.Personally I think it was very reasonable for a prospective candidate to attend a meeting, he is obviously trying to get to know a little bit about silsden etc, the council would soon complain if he was elected and then never attended meetings!! Maybe it is time for silsden council to stand down and a new generation take over.

There have been 4 vacant seats on the town council since last may no one appears to be interested in taking up these seats, so we all sit on internet forums and slag those off those who trying to their best for SILSDEN

As said before in this post the more someone is in your face the less likeley they are to vote for them.Especially when posters are put up on private property i.e.St James church wall without permission of the P.C.C..

In response to KnowAlls comment on STC's vacancy situation, I was in the process of applying for a position on the council until a change of jobs meant I would be unable to attend meetings, functions etc.

There are a lot of areas that desperately need attention in Silsden. As long as there are people on the council working for there own agenda as opposed to the needs of the town, nothing will improve in Silsden. If certain "councillors" are seen to be working solely for their own agenda, should they be on the council?

I'm surprised the vicar gave his permission for this, anyone can ask now to have adverts all over the church walls, and he can't refuse! I can understand adverts for church/ church hall activities, but not other things.
This whole election episode has stirred up some new factors, maybe it will rouse the people to vote in greater numbers?

Don't hold your breath. plenty people spouting about a town Council meeting, some of who have never posted before so not even certain to live in the area.
I put a thread on about what people want from a successful candidate and there is no interest

It’s the 'political' bias on very public view that has led to one or two new ‘posters’ - and yes i am currently very apathetic about the current council make up
Skippy I believe you are the mayor – I know you do a lot of good work for the town , but to retain credibility for the council and your position – please issue an apology to Andy Rowley and ask him back to your next meeting.
