My husband was walking up Elliott Street this morning about 8.45am to go to the Health Centre. As he was turning into the centre he saw a car coming down at great speed. He had only gone a few yards when he heard a terrific bang, and when he turned round he saw that the car had hit a car that was pulling out of the side road( can't remember the name of this road but it's the one opposite the health centre.) There were quite a few cars parked there, so the car pulling out would have his view obscured. Quite a few people ran across from the fire station to help.
Thank goodness no-one was injured.

When my husband came out after his appointment there was a PCSO putting stickers on the cars. The ones that were parked on the pavement had fixed penalty notices.

It's the same old story. The police wait until there is an accident before taking action & issuing fixed penalty notices. Nowadays the police turn a blind eye to illegal parking. After saying that If they had to give every illegally parked vehicle a fixed penalty notice, quite honestly I don't know where they would park. On road parking has reached saturation point.

As it happens I was right next to the accident when it happens and also felt at the time that the car coming down was probably going to fast. I couldn't confirm it though as I only heard it.

It is likely that the lad pulling out will claim responsibility for the accident as he was pulling out on to a main road but then again he had little to no visibility so he had no chance to see what was coming down the hill.

With regards to the PCSO - he was there within 2 mins of the accident as I had to stay to make sure the drivers were ok. It was amazing that it happened where it did as you've got all the emergency services you need in a small area - esp with the PCSO being there only moments after.
