IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. just been reading the results of the survey, some of it was depressing I did not realise there was so much drug activity going on, quite openly it would seem of course some of the comments might not be true but if they are then why are the police not doing anything about it? I would also be worried about young girls hanging around the takeaways |

What a fascinating read. Especially the main report. Seems most of the individual comments are there. Obviously the dog fouling problem is number one. What surprised me though was the number complaining about vehicle parking. I reckon a few miles of double yellow lines in Silsden would be really appreciated by a lot of people. Interesting the comments on public transport. I do not know if the recent changes to the Ilkley - Keighley help at Steeton and Silsden Station, they certainly do at Ilkley. As a bus pass holder I rarely use a bus before 9:30. Contrary to what some people suggest I have never been on a local bus with standing room only. I reckon the bus pass system must be keeping some bus companies solvent. I also use the bus in lieu of the car so it is having a green benefit. Unfortunately too few people have a reasonable grasp of economic reality. To many want 'free' and 'cheaper fares' while no doubt do not want to pay more taxes. Government subsidies for everything from wind farms to bus services come from taxes. At least we still have the freedom to moan and whinge. Evidently there have been comments in the foreign press about the national whingeing and moaning over the Olympic Games. How ignorant they are. It is our freedom to do so that means the games will be a success, and the UK will also get more medals than them. |

I was surprised at the high level of concern about crime in Silsden. I didn't rate it very highly in my own survey reply, and the Police.uk website doesn't show high crime levels either. Mind you, I grew up in what became a bad area of Bradford, so Silsden is Paradise on Earth compared to that! I wonder how many of the people who expressed high concern about crime and areas where they felt unsafe had actually been victims of crime in Silsden? Not many, I suspect. |

I think a lot of people have been victims of crime, a lot don't bother reporting it because it is usually a waste of time. Silsden is probably no worse than anywhere else where there are a few pubs and a lot of takeaways, it can be intimidating especially when people are spilling out on to the pavement drinking, it has probably got better since the wine bar closed but I have seen unpleasant things during the day never mind at night. There definiteley seems to be less police about, cannot remember last time pcso round our way, never hardly see him in the centre either |

quotewill copies of the results be put in the library and other prominent places as not everyone has a computer. The individual comments make interesting reading if you have the time (they are quite long) There will be a copy of the short version in the library from tomorrow (that is the tick box results and appendix A which is the blank survey form). The full results prints to 250 pages, the majority of the pages are the responses people made to the open question boxes. Many of the replies to the open questions repeated/reinforced answers to the tick box answers so it's going to take quite a long time to analyse the open question replies. Once this has been completed the summary report and conclusions will be published. The information provided by Silsden people will be incorporated into the Local Framework document which will be produced by our Town Council. 2012survey.silsden.net |
