This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Lorry leaked radiation as it passed through Wharfedale
A privatised atomic energy company has been fined £250,000 after their `cavalier attitude' exposed the public to potentially lethal levels of radiation.

I hope that it didn't get stuck too long in the traffic lights in Ilkley!!!

But, being serious I wonder what safeguards there are for transporting these substances up the Aire Valley by road and rail if this sort of thing can go on.

Well, if you can find out some more info... then i would be happy to get involved in any process that helps to make the danger of nuclear waste a thing of the past.

Plenty of websites to go at "Haych" for the information.

But I'm afraid nuclear waste in this country will be a battle that will never be won in our lifetimes.

In this case the material was being put to good use at Cookridge and then taken to Sellafield for disposal.

I was listening to a radio program this morning about somewhere in the Thames Estuary where they had decommissoned a nuclear power station and were going to put up a wind farm. The locals were protesting that the turbines were ugly and they would rather have the nuclear power station because it provided jobs! Absolutely amazing!

nuclear waste will incraese as a problem because there is no way we can make enough power in the near future without using nukes. closer to home did you all see the application by Airedale Chemicals in CrossHills to store 10 tons of toxic chemicals (formaldehyde and soemthing else) in an area surrounded by houses. what are planners thinking about to let this happen in light of the accidents that have occurred over the years at other plants. Another Flixborough waiting to happen? the fire service says their emergency plans would include evacuation of residents but they did not say over what area.
