Silsden AFC`s ace fundraising strikers have scored again. Commercial Manager Barry Thomas and Football Club Vice Chairman John Lohan have again defied the odds in bringing the February Enterprise Insurance “Heroes “ award to Silsden for their continued voluntary work in the community. The award involves a sum of money which is being used for new Junior pitches. Leeds United Main Club Sponsor, Enterprise Insurance, have launched a brand new community initiative which sees them providing a “Heroes” award to be presented to the most deserving of local causes each month during the season, Silsden's nomination and presentation was accepted and so turned the two into February`s “Heroes” of the community. “Enterprise Heroes” allows supporters to nominate a local organisation or individual who they think is deserving of the award. Nominees can range from local sports clubs or community groups to an individual who is battling against the odds or has shown great bravery. Barry & John were invited to be guests of Leeds United FC on Tuesday 12th March where they were presented with the award prior to the game aginst Peterborough United stood on the hallowed turf of Elland Road; a dream for John who is a Life-long Leeds supporter and is looking forward to taking to the field of the team he supported as a boy, before they take up pitch side seats for the game. Unfortunately Barry could not attend and his place was taken by another life long Leeds United supporter, Gary Creighton, committee man and supporters' club Chairman, famous for his “excellent pies” at the club's pitch side “Bistro”! The Enterprise Hero award is just one of the duo's achievements since Silsden AFC returned to their spiritual home a few years ago when £105k was raised in less than 5 months by a committee of dedicated volunteer workers. |
