Whats happened to the street cleaners in Silsden, I remember when John Macnulty used to be on the streets from the early hours with a brush & shovel and a cart, he actually swept the streets.

Nowadays there has been a pile of broken glass outside the back of Cravens off license for at least 5-6 months.

The current street cleaner seems only to be armed with a grab and a few green bags !

I saw IT the other day sweeping the leaves off the pavement on Keighley Road. IT has a engine which makes a lot of noise driving a large vacuum cleaner but I have never see the guy who drives it get out of his cab to pick anything up.

tetley if you've seen it there for 5 months why havent you been down to pick it up? there is a 'someone else can do it' culture which is bad for society

would be nice to have a regular street cleaner though

Ted,

I don't normally carry a dustpan and brush with me.

Plus we do have a regular street cleaner, you will see him wandering the street in a high viz jacket with some green bags and a grab stick, he empties the rubbish bins. but i'm not sure what else he does.

There is one of those giant vacuum cleaner type street cleaner which trundles up Keighley Road and through town and up over Cringles most morning as about 6.15. I know as I have been stuck behind it a few times. It only does obne side of the road though and never does the pavment.I have never seen one coming in the other direct though.

I see one doing the pavements early in the mornings in Ilkley one a regular basis.
One other thing, there always seems to be a pile of broken glass outside the gym near the bridge pub at a weekend. It always seems to be in more or less the same spot too.

OK so we occasionally have a machine or two sweeping the paths and cleaning the drains, but my original post was about the council employee ? that we are paying for to pick up rubbish and clean the streets, bring back John Mac

Crossing the bridge by the Duck Pond one Saturday morning I noticed a load of broken glass. It was not that early so plenty of people must have passed it. Anyhow I decided to do the noble thing and pick up what I could and chuck it the nearby bin.

It was a load of those French small beer bottles, but closer inspection revealed most were not even broken! So I picked them up and shaking revealed only one had a loose top. Besides the two or three broken about eight were fine. So I picked up the broken glass and put the good ones in my bag. I quite like the St Omer beer. So to the litter lout who dropped this lot, thanks.

It makes you wonder what you pay your council tax for
on walking the dog ive noticed all the garbage everywhere in the village
(and especially fast food styrofoam boxes all over the main street)
i know this because daisy trys to lick/sniff/eat anything interesting on the floor
there are plenty of bins all over the village
i even found 1 at a bus stop on dradishaw road

so if i can put my rubbish in there why cant everyone else

(there again i guess im preaching to the converted) as everyone who comes on here seems to be proud of our little village alot of it will be chavs i guess the young & the brain dead who think the best thing in life is using an old style dustbin as an exhaust silencersad :(

Hey Everyone
Just enjoying reading about your trash (rubbish) collection problem. I'm writing from California (USA) and I find it very interesting! I learned about your great little town after watching a rerun of "Kitchen Nightmare" last evening. Looks like a very cool place. Is Bonaparte's Restaurant still around? I'd appreciate any reply to my comments. Also, I'm married to an Ogle whose family tree can be traced all the way back to Ogle Castle -- which is somewhere in England. You people truly are lucky to live in such a beautiful place! Take care, Brent in California.

Thanks for the update on Bonaparte's, and thanks for the reply. I live in a city called Bakersfield, which is half-way between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It's about 300,000 people, with about 30% being illegal aliens from Mexico. What's the population of Silsden? A little about me: I'm 43, married for 20 years to an "English" girl (I say that because her ancestors came to the USA in the 1600's from Ogle Castle in Northumberland, England. I'm an independent producer of TV shows/commercials and shoot and edit video. I have a 16-year-old daughter named Laurel. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in Silsden. Brent

There is no need to bookmark the page above. You can get this link and other links to council online forms to request council services from the sidebar menu of the site:

menu > Town Council > report a fault

ie this page silsden.net/town_council/fault_report2.htm

A drain blocked, street lighting not working, a pothole etc - report it here and we all have less to moan about.

Never heared such rubbish regarding reflectionz-it should be a crime to report false information.
Sue Ray lives in Keighley now and has been seen at car boots in Silsden. You only have to visit the wine bar to see that it is doing well or why else would there be so many people outside smoking?

i walk past every day many times apart from friday night there is rarely more than 4 people inside and i think i saw a sign recently saying that they were closing something like mon-wednesday (not sure exactly)
the information i had was the bonaparts owner was declared bankrupt (i have a source at bradford law courts)
and she was moving to spain
also i know her advisor who told me he advised her to have a tapas bar as no one wants to go for fine dining were you have to efectively walk through a sports bar
(i was told this when i told her advisor it was a tapas bar now he said that was my recomendation)

granted i have only heard 1 side of each story but what is the point in my sources lieing?

I am closing this topic because it gone away from the subject (which was street cleaning just to remind you).

Bonaparte's went out of business helped by Gordon Ramsey's reality programme, and you can make up your own mind on that!

Bonaparte's (under a new owner) became:

REFLECTIONZ
Open: Thursday - Saturday 5pm - late
Sunday 2pm - late
Tuesday and Wednesday - closed
