This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

I really wish silsden had a grocers! I'm sick of paying extortionate prices for average veg at the co op! They have a rubbish range of fruit and veg! Fingers crossed someone notices this gap in the market lol

(please don't post the same topic in different subject areas - tip most regular users of the forum look at the 'latest' post - thanks Peter)

It's been tried a good few times over the past few years, the little shop next to Purple Garlic tried it, the Butchers formerly know as Smithies tried it, and even Cafe Cake had a bit of fresh fruit and veg outside for sale a couple of years ago.

But unfortunately, it would appear that the shoppers of Silsden either use the Coop or as I believe in the majority of cases do not shop in Silsden at all, calling into one of the proper supermarkets when coming back from work or shopping on line and getting it delivered.

If there isn't the customer base shopping in town why would anybody risk opening a fresh food business, you would just end up buying stock to make into compost.

The Co-Operative to use the correct term, was started by the working people of Silsden when they felt they were being ripped off by the 'private' shop keepers. So stop feeling sorry for the 'small' shops. They brought it on themselves many years ago. It is a tribute to the working people of Silsden that their Co-Operative is still up and running.

Well I'm sorry but I personally would rather buy everything at small shops I.e bakers, butchers, grocers. I always find most of co ops veg is past it's best and not a great selection, it's brilliant for other things and I'm grateful for it happy :)
