Only joking.Tuesday T&A had an article showing Bradford Council have recieved £47m from the EU since 2000.The Council's executive member for regeneration said "we have helped develop and provide support for 195 projects"
There is an extensive list of the projects. But I cant see one that mentions Silsden.
Perhaps that member(Andrew Mallinson) can tell us how much has been spent in Silsden,
I am sure we would be better of if Silsden were placed into North Yorkshire.

Silden in North Yorkshire would mean being outside the West Yorkshire Metropolitan District as well as Bradford. This would mean no buses and car parks that charge more and often.

As far as I am concerned the positives are worth a lot more than the negatives. There are plenty of commuters in Skipton who would prefer Skipton to be in West Yorkshire.

Remember, the grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence.wink ;)

Its not possible to be worse. Our kids are already goto school in North Yorkshire. The policing of the roads is better. The binmen even work on bank holidays.Leave Steeton in Bradford and we still get cheap train fares.CCTV in its main town.
Bradford just use Silsden as a cash cow.

Sorry "gazzer" you got that one wrong! Think you'd find Northallerton would treat Silsden like a herd of cash cows! That is if they even bothered to find out where it is!

Its about time Bradford built a secondery school in Silsden. They seem more than happy for Silsden children to be educated in North Yorkshire.

I doubt there are enough children in Silsden of Secondary age to justify a secondary school.

As I understand it the fact that some of the available secondary schools are in North Yorkshire is a throwback to the days when they were all in the West Riding.

About six hundred Silsden kids go to South Craven. I would think it is doubtful that that would be enough to sustain a comprehensive with the choice given at South Craven.

But, the system works now, so why fix what ain't broke?

South Craven was built in the days when they had to cater for Silsden kids as well like "wahiba" says.

600 seems a lot?

But, if it is genuine then I would revise my opinion. 600 means seven years of around 80/90 students per year. Each year split into 3/4 class groups. My school was about that size and worked well. It would certainly be bigger than Grassington or Pately Bridge.

Still not sure about the 600 though, but I would be happy to be corrected.

My local comprehensive school had about 600 children attending, including sixth form. There were proposals to close it a few years back - one argument being that the children were not benefiting from the resources available to larger schools. It was pointed out that the school had one of the best accademic results in the region, along with turning out young national standard sports acheivers and musicians. They also retained their staff way beyond the national average. The proposal to close them was eventually dropped in favour of them being recognised as a 'language college'.
