Can anything actually be done about this
Im not talking about people doing 35-40mph (though thats illegal also)
Im getting fed up with idiots flying over the bridge and down keighley road at 50mph/60mph
Ive spoken to the pcso's/camera watch before and they usually come and do camera watch between 4pm-6pm (which is useless as its nose to tail rush hour traffic and people are doing 25mph-35mph)
Something needs sorting before people are killed
Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago i was crossing the road and a woman came over the bridge in a white alfa romeo mito doing about 45-50mph i was halfway across before she popped over the bridge i still had to run the rest of the way i stared at her mouthing slow down she looked at me with a gormless look
any ideas on what can be done by anyone would be helpfull but especially from pcso's/town/district councillers |

I just wanted to make a couple of points on this subject:
1. The speeds being travelled at on Keighley Road are illegal. 2. It is morally irresponsible as the speeds being travelled at are at best going to cause serious injury if there is an impact with a pedestrian or other vehicle and most likley will prove fatal. 3. It is socially irresponsible as the sound of these vehicles travelling at excessive speed can be heard in the houses in the area, you are trying to relax and next thing thing you hear is a rather loud engine noise, and to be honest by the engine note it can be very traumatising as you are always expecting the worst i.e. the squeal of brakes and the sound of an impact.
Don't get me wrong, I drive, I enjoy driving, but I try hard to keep a check on my speed. If you wish to drive in this manner then why not do as I have done in the past and attened track days or racing lessons. This type of driving is not for the road. |

Unfortunately you are probably wasting your time posting on here about it. Do you really think that it is any of us who are the culprits ?
You should see and hear the speed some of these idiots accelerate up Howden Road. |

I was not suggesting it was anybody on here, and I don't think Pumba was either, and we realise it is also a problem in other parts of town.
I was just hoping for ideas of how we can get the powers that be to listen to residents as quite frankly it is driving me insane.
I am willing to take this on and do what I have to do to get listened to and am more than happy to team up with residents of keighley Road and Howden Road.
I am hoping we can do something before someone is killed. |

The police carry out speed checks on Bolton Road, but always on the traffic coming into Silsden. However, the speeding problem is traffic going out of Silsden. If I turn out of Dale View towards Ilkley I can guarantee there will be someone sitting on my tail by the time I get to Tannery Corner - where do they come from? if when I pulled out of Dale View there was nothing coming up Bolton Road. They can't have been doing 30mph.
Speeding on Silsdens periphery roads occurs out of peak traffic times, in peak times cars have no choice but to follow at the speed of the vehicle in front of them. Out of hours the police are not about (or it's too dark for the police to stop motorist safely).
So what is the solution?................... the answer is probably 42. |

I am open to any suggestions or ideas. And I am pretty much in the frame of mind over this for which I refuse to be fobbed off. |

Sadly, the only answer is to install speed cameras in 3/4 good places....they would pay for themselves in a few months, and the speeders would finally be sorted out. Or.....policemen with radar cameras to make a few examples with large fines and penalty points. Time to get the gloves off! |

But which way would the cameras point and how would any penalty points give an example to pass through motorist - fines would only stop the locals from speeding.... and of course the locals never speed. |

I remember once driving on a country road near York and seeing a sign board .... I immediately checked my speed and kept checking it for the duration of my journey..... The sign read " 37 fatality's on this road in 2010. Don't be number 38" ..... Do you think this sort of sign may be good for silsden |

Dont need scameras. They only control speeding when there are many other incidents of bad driving. If Silsden moved into North Yorkshire where there are no fixed scameras you would soon be reading in The Craven Herald about people caught speeding, drink driving, not stopping at Zebra crossings, crossing white lines all around Silsden. This is because they use policemen to police roads not cameras. It would be interesting to see the average speed of cars on Keighley Road, Silsden and Keighley road, Skipton. |

If you drive from Keighley to Oakworth, there are 4 new speed cameras covering areas where people used to speed, they don't do it anymore. The roads are safer, speeds slower, job done. Why can't we have the busy Silsden roads protected as well? |

I agree about speed cameras drivers only slow down where the cameras are and do not stop other types of bad driving.
There are probably no accurate figures for the avergae speed, on any streets the only times I have seen the PCSO's doing speed checks is during rush hours conidtions when there is wall to wall traffic so no one has the opportunity to speed or otherwise. About 18 months ago we asked the Neighbourhood Policing Team to do some checks on Keighley Road but they did it both times at peak traffic time. I am not sure for other roads in Silsden but here on Keighley Road it is evening from around 7.30 until the early hours you hear and see the worst. In fact sat here typing two cars have come past and judging frm the engine noise I doubt they are within the speed limit. |

Agreed does anyone know what times the PCSO's are in the town hall im going to bug them often till they get so sick of me its taken further and something is actually done a few weeks ago there was a white motorbike possibly a honda above a 750 looking at the size of it coming over the bridge pulling a wheelie he had changed gear at least twice on silsden side of the bridge and pulled the wheelie at max revs all the way down to pennine playpark i estimate his speed at between 55-70mph
i have seen him since in rush hour traffic but never managed to get his licence number hes very easy to spot in his white power ranger suit |

Why not put just camera signs and a fake box here and there. This would do the job of slowing cars down without the initial cost of installing proper cameras. Noone would be any wiser!! |
