IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. i note from council mins in july that they are considering a request for a donation £500 for software to run polls on silsden.net this is a brilliant site well organized and easy to use its the only place to find out whats going on in the town . it`s also a link to the town council so they should stop considering and start granting.i have looked at many town web pages and this one is by far the best |

Thankyou for your kind comments. I haven't been sent the minutes for several months so I haven't seen the comments from that meeting. I thought it was a good idea as well which is why I requested the funds but it has been turned down. The reason given that people from outside Silsden could possibly vote on a topic and distort the views of Silsdeners. I welcome a debate on this subject. Peter (silsden.net) |

I would agree that it is an excellent site and I am sure that certain councillors do take notice of what is said on here, and change their opinions accordingly. However, to correct the statement from the earlier post the grant to run polls was NOT turned down. Merely postponed until it could be considered further at some time in the future. My own personal concern is that it would not necessarily give a balanced view of the wishes of people in Silsden. Lots of people would not have a voice. I believe that was also the concern of others. It would also be my concern that something voted for on here became "cast in stone" as the wishes of Silsdeners when it should not be, as the majority of Silsdeners would not have been able to vote. But again I would repeat this is still an excellent site and an invaluable resource to the town. Points are noted and I would hope that more town and district councillors read what is going on. |

Alan, thank you for correcting my statement and expressing yours and the views of the council meeting. I look forward to your invitation to the meeting when the item is discussed again. I would like to be given the opportunity to explain how the software works and how it could be used. To be meaningful any survey is as good as the questions and the number of people that bother to complete it. |

Peter I think that is an excellent idea for you to come to a meeting. One of my concerns would be abuse, and, of course, a limited number of people being able to vote. The problem is that if town and district councillors do not have confidence in it they will take no notice. But, like I said earlier there are a number of councillors who read what goes on and it is one of the things that does help shape their opinions. Though not always agreeing with some of the comments made ![]() But, again personally, I would like to see more people attending town council meetings. Everybody is allowed a public adjournment IF they want one and they will be listened too! |

Peter, this site is excellent, and if you read the press reports, as a town councillor and a"civvie" I am wholeheartedly in favour of donating to this site. I have to agree with Alan however and urge people to come to the meetings at the town hall, if only to see what your precept is being spent on in the town, and give the council your views and ideas. |

just to go back to an earlier comment, everyone has the opportunity to come to a council meeting and air their views, and yet no-one turns up.HOWEVER, look how many people comment on this site!!!many more, so surely some views are better than none at all, even if the views are those that the council don't want to hear!!. |

just to pick up on a point about council minutes, the last ones on the website are March 2007, could the minutes not be sent right away by the council to Peter so he can add them in when they are topical, not months later? |
|
| alan |
"carliol" e-mail the clerk and ask her, the contact details are on here. The contact details are under town council. The minutes are available in the library I believe. |

"alan"...many thanks, I have done the email |

The minutes should be on site Sun/Mon. They have been not been available for website publication for a number of reasons (holidays and mail eating spam checkers). |

Silsden Town Council Agendas and Minutes are now up to date and online www.silsden.net/town_council/index.htm |
