I have read many posts here re: dog fouling but no one seems concerned regarding cat fouling. I have this morning cleared one newly dug area in my garden of 7 piles of filth kindly deposited by a cat.
The reason I don`t have a cat or dog is I don`t want to clear up after an animals toilet, my personal choice, why then do I have to clear up after somone else`s pet.
It would seem that the main attraction fot cat owners is their pet`s independence and low maintainence, at others expence.
Gardening becomes very risky whilst planting you get a handful of cat filth, this is nasty and dangerous to the health of adults and children alike.
Yet it seems to concern no one least of all cat owners who shrug and say you can`t stop a cat from going where it wants to!
I have just spent £30 on a electronic cat scarer(why do I have to pay)maybe we should licence cats and fund cat scarers from the licence monies?
The next step is an electric fence!!
I await the response from all the cat protection people and owners none of whom I have yet seen in my garden clearing up after their pets.

Legally cats are considered wild independent animals unlike dogs which are considered a domestic animal that can be controlled.

I think this means that an accident caused by a dog can be attributed to the owner not being in control. An accident caused by a cat is down to the cat.

I couldn't agree more, each year I spend considerable amounts of money and more than that time, trying to make my garden a pleasant place to enjoy on the rare days we get some nice weather, only to discover within 24 hrs or doing so I have a present waiting for me from a cat. It can be avioded if owners trained their cats to use litter trays properly, but as you mention many cat owners see them as a low maintenance and pay no regard to training.
It's very easy for adults to be more vigilant to reduce the risks of such things as toxoplasmosis, however when children are playing in the garden is poses a much greater risk.

dogs are thick cats are bright so they remember things so if they are my garden I start off friendly with the standard here kitty kitty then they get the order of the boot they never ever come back if they have left a little present there is a very old remedy to that stroke them then grab there neck and then rub there nose in it this also stops them coming back I hate cats because they kill our true wild live.

Could some of you come and have a word with our cats? Damn things never go anywhere than in our garden - and the same place everytime wink :)

Well, unless one of them is accidently inside over night - then I swear it lets a great dane into the bathroom and instucts it to leave a present alongside the loo . . wink :)

Put a little orange peel down, or orange/citrus essence down should deter cats naturally from taking a poop in your garden... bit more humane than giving them the boot and setting dogs onto them etc. !! wink ;)

As a cat lover and owner, I know it must be horrible to clear the poo, its not nice to touch any poo full stop!. However, I do have to say my cats have a litter tray in the house and in the garden. I obviously know they use it and if every cat owner did this it would help to an extent, I hope.
However, other animals poo all over, for example the good old bird poo!
If I found out someone had booted my cat it would upset me as I love my pets.
If you get a water spray they dont like that and its not going to hurt them.

Some years ago at our previous home, we had a neighbour that, although quite frail, had a beautiful garden. One day she told me that she was fedup with the resident neighbourhood cat pooing and scratting up. Whilst there the cat duly appeared, right says I, put the hose pipe through the wall and watch what happens. When the cat squatted down, I told her to switch on the tap at full pelt. The cat took to his heels never to return, but then started to use our garden...Sods Law or what!!!!!
