IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. I wish to point out that it is our local council who continuosly let us down. The Conservative Eric Dawson, fails to act upon any issues of concern, he consistently ignores the public and has done nothing for our town. I ask anyone to produce something that this council has done for us! |

In respect of taxes: there is no such thing as a free lunch. In respect of services: take public transport. Now it might not be what is was like 50 years ago but compared with my experiences down south it is wonderful! As for education. Well everybody is an expert as everyone went to school. All the 'experts' decided they wanted to control education and came up with all these fancy schemes. Result is that is now cost twice as much. Who do you think pays for all these inspections, league tables, assistant to assistants, etc... |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) With the District Council (Bradford) elections coming up in June perhaps we should all seriously look at what the present councillors have contributed to Silsden before blindly voting to continue the status quo! One question would be to ask how many times each of them have attended a meeting of the Town Council? |

At the end of the day local councils have very little control over what goes on. Much of this came about because the Conservatives did not like the idea of councils being controlled by lefties. So they introduced a centralised system that Stalin would have been proud of. Once power gets back to the centre trying to get it back again is difficult. This is obvious as Labour decided to hang on to the centralisation. Whenever a centralised activity starts being problematic there is a tendency to delegate it, usually to be done on the cheap and with loads of pseudo controls in place. A classic example is Further Education. Colleges under local authority control were forced to become independent. However they were all then subject to massive central controls. But because they were allowed some control over their money some within the system got fat pay rises, while the many got less. Ok enough winges for today. |

WHY CAN'T SOME OF THE MONEY WHICH IS PAID BY MOST TAX PAYERS BE PUT BACK IN SILSDEN THAN GOING DIRECT TO BRADFORD. |
