IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. this post has been edited 1 time(s) I may be moving to Silsden as a result of my other half's work relocation. We've done lots of leg work and research on the surrounding area and have found your town to be very pleasant; it's surrounded by beautiful countryside, has access to transport links and the town is both pleasant and bustling and the locals that we've met have been a very friendly bunch too! We are a little concerned though about the much discussed Unitary Development Plan and fear that with over-development Silsden will lose its charm. Can anybody confirm what the current status is with regards to this plan, has most of it been abandoned? Thanks in advance for your help and clarification. |

It's because of offcumdens that Silsden is being over developed and the younger generation can't afford to live there. |

Thanks for your friendly response! We originate from this area and are merely relocating back, we've been away for some time and so naturally we want to ensure the area to which we move to will suit us. For the record, I'm not in favour of "local" people being priced out of the market. We do have to acknowledge that in today's environment, we have to be willing to move where the work is, therefore it is inevitable that not everybody who lives in your town will originate from there. I hope that you will be made to feel more welcome if ever you have to relocate. |

new resident, don't panic about the UDP the town Council have been fighting this for about fifteen years and Bradford haven't managed it yet so hopefully we will all be to old to bother by the time they do. silsden is a lovely place to live, but to get the most out of it you should get involved in the many activities that take place around town, visit the Town Hall and the libary for a start. Welcome! |

Grandad, thanks for your reply. I'm glad to hear about the ongoing battle; it would be a shame to see Silsden fall foul of over development. Do you happen to know whether the bypass is still on the cards or is this part of the ongoing battle? When we do finally make the full move I do intend to take an interest in local issues, so you never know I might just see you at the local meetings. Thank you for your kind words. |

BradMet rearranged their website (an improvement?? I don't think so!!) but in revamping their site all the links I had made to the UDP documents on their website were broken. I have found the missing documents and restored the silsden.net page. Read all about the last installment of the UDP saga here www.silsden.net/udp/silsden_rUDP_bradmet.htm |

Thanks for your responses and I found the revised links very useful. |

Until access to the railway is improved there will not be too much development. It was obvious from the report that the inspector came to Silsden by train and walked up. His crossing of the dual carriageway is not stated as such, but his comments clearly show that he did. |
