I noticed they haven't put Asda on there yet. Asda, Morrisons and Sainsburys are usually the same price though.

yep asda is the cheapest for many miles around.you have to pay by card at the pump but once you've done it once it comes easily thereafter.it might only be a penny a litre cheaper than some but in my book the one that's prepared to be the cheapest gets my vote.

i certainly agree with you there alan,we only go in if we are desperate, just a fiver to get us into keighley/skipton then we fill the tank up,i used to say to them at the silsden one,see you put your prices up again, they would snap back and say nowt to do with me,then they would say,is that all you have put in,and id reply, thats all i can afford at this place, and yet theres a shell station on the A1 going down to doncaster and its only 1.07 for unleaded and 1.09 for diesal, none of it makes sense

I really don't know what to make of the comments on this topic!

Petrol / diesel is one of those things you have to go somewhere to get, so YOU have the choice as to where you get it from i.e. if you don't like the prices down the road then go somewhere else.

But... consider this; if the Silsden petrol station went out of business, and the nearest petrol station was 4 miles away, would you notice? would you find it inconvenient when you ran out of petrol for your lawn mower? or perhaps B&Q might be closed when you decide it would be a good idea for a BBQ.sad :(sad :(sad :(sad :(

Be thankful that we have got a petrol station, many places haven't!

Wouldn't really be bothered Peter happy :)

Both the Silsden and Ilkley garages he has are more expensive, why should we pay higher prices for living in Silsden?

Poor service and high prices is too much for me for the luxury of having it here.

Like I said you take the car to the garage so you don't have to use Silsden or Ilkley garage so why moan about them.

Like most people I suspect, I shop around for the best price but I would miss the Silsden petrol station if it wasn't there.

nope i had many years of fun in the coupe
and very impressed with this so far
the turn of speed for such a small car is impressive and the handling is pretty good
(even top gear and what car said that to)

As a rough guide the costs of running a car is around one tenth of the cost per litre per mile. So for the average car this is around 10 - 12 p/mile.

Any detour to buy fuel needs to be costed on this basis - which again roughly means a detour to Keighley from Silsden for a fill up is going to be cancelled out by the ost of the return trip for a reasonable fill up of 30 - 40 litres.

Before you query these figures please do the calculations. But remember. £1.00/litre is £4.50/gallon which means if you car averages 45 mpg the cost is 10p/mile!

but if like I do you just fill up when you are in Keighley anyway then it doesn't cost anything extra in mileage to get there

1.10 -- 25.00 20.00 16.67 14.29 12.50 11.11 9.99 9.09 8.33

Now that was interesting getting the table to look right!

Price per litre down the side, car mpg across top and read off the cost per mile for the fuel. Multiply that by the mileage for any detour to buy fuel. If the intent of the detour is to save on the price of fuel that is the figure the actual saving must be greater than to have made it worthwhile.

So if you pass somewhere with cheaper fuel in the course of a normal journey then fine. However, if you are thinking of making a special journey for cheaper fuel you can work out whether or not it is worth it. Remember there is also a wear and tear cost of around 2p mile or more to add to the above figure.

just another COMMENT ,,,its not necessary the cost that matters,id rather go 10 miles to get petrol off someone who wants my business than get ripped off in silsden 4p a litre extra is 20p a gallon, local businesses only survive if they can get prices nearer to their competition than thathappy :)sad :(angry
