This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

are they planning on doing the whole of silsden? I am surprised that there has not been any information about this as it has caused a lot of disruption, how on earth have people coped who had part of their drives dug up? and what are they doing anyway?

The men doing the digging and pipes worked like slaves in all weathers even Saturdays, they informed us when we would be disturbed, offered heaters and boiling rings, warned us to take our cars off drives before they began, I could not fault them. However the reinstatement team rather let the side down, we were back filled ( quite painless I assure you) and then had to wait five days for the Tarmac, we were nine days without access to drives. Which on "toyota's car park' was no joke.

I am not certain weather or not all of silsden is due for work to start.Incidentally i don't work for British gas ,but i will try to help if i can.To start you should receive a letter, but i didn't,the first i new was when they knocked on my door,to tell me my gas pipe was going to be renewed .Now i thought this is when the fun starts,5 years ago i built an extension to my kitchen and inquired as to the cost to have my gas meter put outside .the quote was £740 PLUS £60 per extra mt'r over 2 mt'r ,lot of money i thought but her in doors wanted the job doing, Job starts when i get to the gas pipe under ground my gas pipe is connected to next door, now because i am the one that wants my gas meter to the out side the entire cost for both pipe renewals falls on me,costly that i thought but what could i do .the next door would not allow his pipe to be moved so i didn't have any choice but to leave my meter in side and build my kitchen units to suite the meter. It was a tidy job but not perfect .NOW with all that in mind i tell the gas man at my door about the trouble i had and the estimated cost 5 years ago almost £2000 his reply was your trouble is now mine and it will cost you nothing .now i must point out that the only thing i had was an empty white gas box that i fit when i built the extension ,no drilled hole threw the wall no pipe internally or externally .now the point i am trying to make is if you want to have your meter to the outside wall without any cost to you get a gas box fit before they come to sus out the job . Now back to what happens when work starts .some pipes to houses are metal and some are yellow plastic covered with a grey sleeve ,if yours is plastic it might not need replacement at the point it enters your house. but they will dig the pavement up in the street and check to see if the pipe is the correct one .those that are metal have the yellow pipe inserted inside .At the most you will have a hole dug at the top of your drive and one where it enters your house

To echo earlier comments, digging up, disconnection, new pipe and reconnection to meter we're done easily and neatly, and worked around when we were in. Slight hiccup with reconnection to meter not happening to due confusion over address, but easily, quickly and politely sorted when I rang up. Re-paving patio took three goes. First a slab broken when dug up was put back down. A new slab was put down in place at the second attempt, which then sank over night, sorted on the third go. All done very politely, no hassle.

I would not have wanted to be working in the temps, torrential rain and winds they were.

To put the record straight, Dave first posted the roadworks link in another topic. It's worth investigating the advanced features on the website.

If you look at the roadworks scheduled for 6 months time it shows which roads (and where) the roads will be closed for the Tour de France.
