Hi I live locally and I’m just doing a little research regarding Computer/Network security. I work as an IT Security consultant for an ICT Consultancy company. My job involves large public and private sector companies asking me to crack into their network and to tell them how to fix security weaknesses before an actual hacker does it for real. It’s a bit like a burglar alarm company advising you to add locks to a window or put a burglar alarm sensor in this part of your house. As a company we haven’t looked at providing the same service for small businesses or home users in the past but more and more attacks are aimed at this group. The reasons for attacking this group of people is the ease of capturing credit card details and sensitive information, if this kind of information was to fall in to the wrong hands it could end up costing you time and money sorting out purchase charges made on a credit card/bank statement that you didn’t make. I would just like to know if you think carrying out a service which tests your wireless/wired network, firewalls or PCs is something people would be interested in? I am aware that as everything in life it will all depend on money but I’m just interested to see what kind of market is out there for this kind of service. |
