This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Listener, Thank you I am sure you will agree that we all hope this equipment will never be needed.
There were some people at the meeting who have expressed and interest in joining the local responder group, so hopefully we can grow in numbers, I personally hope we can become like the Addingham group and be able to give first aid training free of charge.

I agree with that 100% Grandad and share your vision of being like Addingham in both responder numbers and free first aid training.

Gazzer Please do not take this the wrong way, thanks for your initial offer; I look forward to the answers, I feel however that if we want people to donate to this, it must be seen to be completely above board with no chance of any suggestions of misconduct,

Listener, yes that sounds a good idea, but has I have said in previous post, it needs to be seen to be completely above board, I and probably many other people who are very happy to contribute to this good cause have no idea who Gazzer is.

Gazzer, Sorry if you took my post to be in any way a doubt on your integrity, I can assure you it wasn't, but in this day and age people are very nervous of anybody asking for money even when it can be seen to be for a good cause.
Again sorry for any anguish my post may have caused you.

The defibrillator has now been installed in it's life box outside St James Parish church.
There will probably be a story in next weeks Keighley News, as they were there and photos were taken of our Town Mayor handing it over.

Handed over to whom Grandad, i do not remember seeing any notification on here for us to attend?

Also what is happening with fundraising, has anyone asked the local pubs, clubs and Coop if they were interested in raising money for their own?

Handed over to the Y.A.S.
No there wasn't any notification on here for you to attend.
I do not know any more than you do about fundraising, perhaps you would like to take that side of it on?

I help with the fundraising at the football club Grandad so will have to decline.

That does not mean i would not help.

So what is the next step in matching Addingham`s accumulation of defibrillators?

Still think each pub would help in raising money for their own.

Listener, the next step for me is that I have applied to join our Community Responders.
If the pubs want to start fund raising then that is up to them.
I have got this first one from our Town Council and with a bit of luck we will get another one in the not too distant future, but I can't yet say from where the money will come or where it will be sited.

terrier52, Don't worry, first of all the gate is not padlocked, it is only held closed with a Carabiner, and it is only fastened when the kids are outside playing, all other times it gates are open.
I am in the process of making sure that even when the gate is closed has in above the staff will not delay anybody needing the defib.

I have made contact with the Lady who runs the Pied Pipers and we have discussed the potential problem. The kids are only out for short periods at a time, the staff are fully aware of the possible need for a member of the public to get to the box quickly, there is a plastic fence between the kids and the top of the steps where the box is; so both the kids and the public are separated.
If the defib is need at the time the kids are out then any possible delay will be only minimal.
So don't worry.

There is a strong probability that we will be getting a second defib and life box for Silsden.
More info when it is known.

Yes I am now a trained community first responder.
The Silsden first responder group will be looking at getting local training going at our next meeting.
do not take this the wrong way! But have you already had the Heartstart teacher training yourself, or were you thinking of setting up another group whic hwill all be trained?
Have you thought of becoming a responder yourself?

grandad thank you for your response,my training covered First aid in sport ie, C.P.R,/ recovery position, bleeding from injuries,/head injuries /heimlich maneuver, sorry we havn't to call it that ,it's abdominal thrusts. now if i can quote your own words( organise a group who can regularly hold first aid training courses, not necessarily up to fully qualified standard, but giving the public enough basic knowledge to help in the first instant before more qualified personnel arrive.) now these are also my goals i would like to aim for, but my training doesn't qualify me to train others, litigation claims being the norm at the moment does give food for thought, even with that in mind doing nothing is not an option and if i could find willing helpers and some manakins i would start asap.

Update, Thanks to the ward councillors Adrian Naylor and Chris Atkinson; supported by the Town Council, Silsden now as a second life box containing a defibrillator, this one is situated on the wall of the Gloucester Community centre; the door to this building is on Windsor Ave the box is beside the door.
And I fervently hope it will not ever be need! But the money spent will have been well worth every penny; just in case it is.

cars, There is already one on the wall of St James Church hall, the idea is to spread them around the Town so they are more readily available to the whole Population any time day or night.
We are hoping to get a third one at the waterside side of Town asap.
We have gone down the life box route to make sure they will always be accessible if they are placed in a shop or even a taxi office there is the chance that it could be closed when the defib is needed.

I believe the defibrillators should be fool proof to use Grandad? When I've seen similar they have had step by step instructions on the screen. Do they get serviced too?

Blob, yes to both your questions.

Cars, nothing in this world is guaranteed for ever, it might not be likely, but they could close at any time for any reason, also as I said we already have one close by, we want to distribute the around the town not have them all in one place.
Why can't you embrace the good work being done with this initiative, instead of complaining about it? They may save yours or somebody else's life!

Cars, Nothing against the taxi office!
As I said we have one nearby, so we do not need another in the Town centre, also why got to all the trouble of having to move the box and get it rewired somewhere else when by putting it where we have everything is fine?
But you obviously know nothing about how the system works! If you read some of the previous posted you will find out, ringing the taxi office would not get you a defibrillator!
So STOP trying To make trouble, we are doing this with the full backing and support of the NHS.
But you think you know better than the professionals do you?

Please read previous posts!
But I will repeat the way it works again.
If somebody feels ill, they phone 999 ask for the ambulance service or somebody does it for them, the operator who takes the call will ask questions in order to decide the appropriate response, if they decide it is needed they could try to get somebody with the patient to start CPR and also ask if another person could go the the nearest location where they have a defib located, (They have the ones linked to the NHS shown on their asset board) (Yes the ones in Silsden are linked) if there is such a person available, then they will if necessary give them the code to the life box so they can get it out.
In the meantime they will stay on the line to advise; and all required personnel will be sent.
They main thing when somebody suffers an heart attack and stops breathing is to start CPR asap and to continue until the ambulance crew tell you to stop.
